As April is coming to an end, we are going through a very special moment both for\u00a0Argentina and the world. There arrived a pandemic that faces us with a serious\u00a0challenge, as part of the responsibility is in the hands of the Government but another\u00a0great part is in our own hands. We are dealing with a health and a social emergency.<\/strong> We \u2013the Argentine people and here in HPHA\u2013 are aware that we have being living the\u00a0latter for quite a few years now.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Habitat para la Humanidad Argentina has been working and making a great effort to ensure\u00a0that everyone has access to their own space, their own habitat. During this pandemic \u2013and\u00a0under mandatory lockdown\u2013 each person\u2019s home and habitat plays a key role, with many\u00a0facets that we need to analyze together.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One of the issues in which Argentina has very daunting statistics is that of gender-based\u00a0violence and femicides. The number of femicides hasn\u2019t decreased in years. On the contrary, it\u00a0grows every day. Lockdown has only worsened these figures. Thus, it is highly important for us\u00a0to reflect on gender equality at home. More than half of femicides are committed by partners,\u00a0former partners or significant others. It is hard. It is hard to file the complaint, to stop forgiving\u00a0and to stop believing that everything will eventually work out.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This issue is greatly related to our upbringing. Gender is a cultural issue. We need to demystify\u00a0the attributes associated with the house, men and women. There is no blue or pink. Let\u2019s\u00a0seize these days where all the family is at home so that everyone fulfills a role. Let\u2019s try to\u00a0analyze how we can teach at home that taking care of the house is a responsibility of mom\u00a0and dad just as much as of your brother or sister.<\/strong> Let\u2019s try to give a gender perspective to\u00a0every activity we do these days. We need to seize this time to try and understand what is\u00a0happening to us, why it is happening to us and how we can improve ourselves. These are\u00a0difficult times but we need to consider how we can make each habitat the best place for us to\u00a0take refuge. Let\u2019s be creative, ingenious and considerate. Let\u2019s find ways to integrate, discuss\u00a0things and find new \u201cspaces\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let\u2019s be careful and stay home. But let\u2019s also try to keep developing our gender perspective\u00a0in this habitat that we are living in today.<\/strong><\/p>\n
